INTRODUCTION AND ORGANISATIONAL OVERVIEW

Somali Sustainable Services Association (SOLSA) is a regional Non-governmental Organization (NGO) aimed to operate in most of the different territories which Somali communities lived including Somaliland, Somalia, Djibouti and the region five of Ethiopia or DDS. SOLSA was founded in 2003 in Hargeisa city and initially intended to be as a ‘Student Association’ that mainly focused on uplifting the education sector mainly in the primary schools and addresses the dire education needs of the poor communities and marginalized groups in Somaliland.

As the organization grows, the board recognized the need to expand it in both the areas which the organization operates and the scope of work as well. In 2019 the members of the board decided the organization to function in all the different territories which the Somali communities inhabit and also changed its original name into “Somali Sustainable Services Association” (SOLSA).      

The organization currently involves in the areas of education, peer counselling, human rights advocacy with a keen interest on the youth rights, non-formal education, and literacy, sports promotion and contributes to reducing risks of water-borne related diseases and increase protection of vulnerable children and their families in Somaliland.

SOLSA supports children and young students to move forward the awareness of children’s rights and to hold governments and the international community accountable

EDUCATION
SOLSA’s special focus to education will be on girls, marginalized, poor and underprivileged children with the aim of each and every child having the right to learn and develop

WATER AND SANITATION
Access to safe drinking water and sanitation is a key factor in promoting development. Water and sanitation also have strong links to child survival, education, health and protection
